1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 281 1-3 WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding 1-4 Texans who have shared 50 fulfilling years together is a 1-5 splendid occasion and one worthy of great celebration; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Sarah Patricia Brown was born in Cuero on 1-7 August 9, 1931, and her husband to be, Darrel Edward Mahan, 1-8 was born in Henderson on July 25, 1931; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Darrel and Sarah Patricia Mahan were married in 1-10 Reynosa, Mexico, on February 18, 1951; they had met at Edinburg 1-11 Junior College in the 1950-1951 school year; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The happy couple were blessed with six wonderful 1-13 children, Larry, Bruce, Dennis, Pam, Ricky, and the late DeeDee; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, All the children graduated from Henrietta King 1-16 High School in Kingsville, and the family lived there until Darrel 1-17 accepted an assignment in Norway in 1972; and 1-18 WHEREAS, While working for Exxon, Darrel was finally 1-19 persuaded to move to Houston in 1979; he traveled around the 1-20 world and Pat was able to join him for many memorable trips; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Pat and Darrel were fortunate that they were 2-2 able to travel, and they toured many places, among them were 2-3 London, Paris, Spain, Sweden, and Ireland; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Darrel took an assignment in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 2-5 in 1983, and the couple visited Bangkok, Singapore, Puket, and the 2-6 Hill Tribes in northern Thailand and Hawaii; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Soon their son Larry started to work for Exxon, and 2-8 this made four generations in the family that worked for the firm; 2-9 Darrel's grandfather worked for Standard Oil of New Jersey, and 2-10 Darrel's father retired from Humble in 1971, while Darrel retired 2-11 in 1986 with the Golden HandShake; and 2-12 WHEREAS, The anniversary couple has been graced with eight 2-13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and 2-14 WHEREAS, The Mahan home has been the scene of many joyful 2-15 times and has countless happy memories; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Pat and Darrel have grown 2-17 stronger as together they experienced the joys and sorrows of 2-18 everyday living; and 2-19 WHEREAS, The long and successful union of Mr. and Mrs. Mahan 2-20 is certainly an inspiration to all; now, therefore, be it 2-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-22 77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere congratulations to 2-23 Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Mahan on their 50th anniversary; and, be it 3-1 further 3-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-3 this distinguished couple as an expression of high regard and 3-4 esteem from the Texas Senate. 3-5 Brown 3-6 ______________________________________ 3-7 President of the Senate 3-8 I hereby certify that the above 3-9 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-10 on February 19, 2001. 3-11 ______________________________________ 3-12 Secretary of the Senate 3-13 ______________________________________ 3-14 Member, Texas Senate
