1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 296 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride 1-4 in joining the citizens of Richardson on the joyous occasion 1-5 of Richardson Legislative Day at the State Capitol on 1-6 February 20, 2001; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Originally called Breckenridge before the Civil War 1-8 era, the town of Richardson grew around a new station on the T&NO 1-9 Railroad built in the area in 1872; the city was renamed for a 1-10 railroad official, A. S. Richardson; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Located in northeastern Dallas County, Richardson 1-12 is noted for the Telecom Corridor area, a commercial and industrial 1-13 area that is occupied by more than 700 high technology and 1-14 telecommunications firms; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The city also has 27 parks that cover 1,014 acres 1-16 and offer fitness trails, swimming pools, and tennis courts; 1-17 the city is home to Owens Spring Creek Farm, a commercial 1-18 sausage-making firm that maintains a museum and showcase 1-19 farm with Belgian horses and Shetland ponies; and 1-20 WHEREAS, The Richardson Chamber of Commerce and its 1-21 affiliated Telecom Corridor Technology Business Council have 2-1 played a major role in establishing the harmony that exists 2-2 between business and government in the Richardson area; the 2-3 Technology Business Council is the first of its kind in Texas 2-4 and one of a small but growing number across the nation; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Richardson is known for its high-quality public 2-6 schools and is recognized for its Wildflower Arts and Music 2-7 Festival and Cottonwood Arts Festival; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Richardson is home of The University of Texas 2-9 at Dallas which has more than 11,000 students and is the 2-10 fastest-growing public university in Texas in enrollment; the 2-11 university also has an outstanding School of Engineering and 2-12 Computer Science to serve the technology industry in the Telecom 2-13 Corridor and across the Metroplex; and 2-14 WHEREAS, Richardson Legislative Day at the State Capitol 2-15 provides the citizens of the region with an opportunity to 2-16 rejoice in the amenities of their outstanding city and to take 2-17 pride in its unique contributions to the State of Texas; now, 2-18 therefore, be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-20 77th Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Richardson 2-21 and the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and the Telecom Corridor 2-22 Technology Business Council on their fruitful collaboration and 2-23 extend to them best wishes for a rewarding Richardson Telecom 2-24 Corridor Legislative Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-2 the City of Richardson as an expression of esteem from the 3-3 Texas Senate. 3-4 Shapiro 3-5 Carona 3-6 Armbrister Gallegos Shapleigh 3-7 Barrientos Harris Sibley 3-8 Bernsen Haywood Staples 3-9 Bivins Jackson Truan 3-10 Brown Lindsay Van de Putte 3-11 Cain Lucio Wentworth 3-12 Duncan Madla West 3-13 Ellis Moncrief Whitmire 3-14 Fraser Nelson Zaffirini 3-15 Ogden 3-16 Ratliff, President of the Senate 3-17 ______________________________________ 3-18 President of the Senate 3-19 I hereby certify that the above 3-20 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-21 on February 20, 2001. 3-22 ______________________________________ 3-23 Secretary of the Senate 3-24 ______________________________________ 3-25 Member, Texas Senate 3-26 ______________________________________ 3-27 Member, Texas Senate
