1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 297 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing February 21, 2001, as Texas Midwest Day in Austin; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A vast area of rural charm and natural beauty, the 1-6 Texas Midwest is known for its scenic plains and rich history and 1-7 is home to a host of cities offering a wide array of opportunities; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, The area is a combination of traditional ranch lands, 1-10 farms, and large stretches of oil and gas reserves; once populated 1-11 with Comanche Indians and other tribes, the Texas Midwest is dotted 1-12 with historic sites and museums that provide an intriguing overview 1-13 of life in the Old West; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The counties that comprise Texas Midwest are Brown, 1-15 Callahan, Coke, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, Erath, Fisher, 1-16 Hamilton, Haskell, Jones, Kent, Knox, Mills, Mitchell, Nolan, 1-17 Runnels, Scurry, Shackelford, Stephens, Stonewall, Throckmorton, 1-18 and Taylor; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The purpose of hosting Texas Midwest Day in Austin 1-20 is to demonstrate a strong voice for rural Texas and bring 1-21 attention to those issues of concern in the region; the event is 1-22 also expected to strengthen participation of Texas Midwest citizens 1-23 in the legislative process; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-2 77th Legislature, hereby commend the counties of Texas Midwest on 2-3 their many contributions to our state and extend best wishes to all 2-4 for an enjoyable Texas Midwest Day in Austin; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a 2-6 memento of this occasion. 2-7 Haywood, Fraser, 2-8 Sibley 2-9 ______________________________ _______________________________ 2-10 Member, Texas Senate Member, Texas Senate 2-11 _______________________________ 2-12 Member, Texas Senate 2-13 _______________________________ 2-14 President of the Senate 2-15 I hereby certify that the 2-16 above Resolution was adopted by 2-17 the Senate on February 21, 2001. 2-18 _______________________________ 2-19 Secretary of the Senate
