 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 311
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate wishes to express its support for
 1-4     the recovery of the Honorable Patricio Martinez Garcia, Governor of
 1-5     Chihuahua, who was wounded on January 17, 2001; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Governor Martinez was injured as he was leaving his
 1-7     office, and his wounds are fortunately not expected to be life
 1-8     threatening; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, With a long record of honorable public service
1-10     which includes being a congressman and being elected the mayor
1-11     of Chihuahua City, Governor Martinez was elected to his present
1-12     position in 1998; and
1-13           WHEREAS, This talented and gifted man has worked tirelessly
1-14     to develop and promote tourism, commerce, agriculture, and
1-15     other area businesses; he is also former president of the
1-16     Chihuahua Chamber of Commerce; and
1-17           WHEREAS, During Governor Martinez's respected career, he
1-18     has dedicated his energy and time to making a future which is
1-19     brighter for his fellow citizens; it is certainly an appropriate
1-20     time for an expression of encouragement and support during his
 2-1     recuperation; now, therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-3     77th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the
 2-4     Honorable Patricio Martinez Garcia, Governor of Chihuahua,
 2-5     for a swift recovery; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 2-7     Governor Martinez as an expression of highest regard from the
 2-8     Texas Senate.
