 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 312
 1-3           WHEREAS, Involved parents and community leaders of Edgewood
 1-4     Independent School District in San Antonio are visiting Austin on
 1-5     February 21, 2001, to meet with Texas legislators; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Edgewood Independent School District historically
 1-7     has served as a symbol of the challenges faced and the opportunities
 1-8     offered by public schools; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Sustained by heartfelt community support, deep
1-10     parental involvement, and a districtwide commitment to excellence in
1-11     education, Edgewood Independent School District today serves as a
1-12     symbol of hope for future generations; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Edgewood Independent School District has built model
1-14     schools that include the Edgewood Fine Arts and Communications
1-15     Academy, the Math and Science Academy, the Careers and Technology
1-16     Academy, and the Accelerated Learning Middle School; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Additional exemplary programs that offer dual
1-18     language Spanish immersion are provided to help students master
1-19     reading and writing in both English and Spanish; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Edgewood Independent School District has demonstrated
1-21     its commitment to educational excellence by achieving "recognized"
1-22     status on district performance ratings; and
1-23           WHEREAS, The dedication and hard work of its students have
 2-1     also resulted in a demonstration of athletic prowess, including the
 2-2     recent victory as district champions by the Mighty Rockets boys
 2-3     basketball team; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, The namesakes of Edgewood schools--from
 2-5     Henry B. Gonzalez Elementary School to John F. Kennedy High
 2-6     School--serve each day to encourage the aspirations of Edgewood
 2-7     students and to reflect the dedication of Edgewood teachers and
 2-8     administrators; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-10     77th Legislature, hereby commend the parents, teachers,
2-11     administrators, and community leaders of Edgewood Independent
2-12     School District on the occasion of their visit to the Texas
2-13     Capitol; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That the Texas Senate pay tribute to the Edgewood
2-15     community for its ongoing commitment to educational excellence for
2-16     its students.  "Si se puede!"
