1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 314 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased 1-4 to join the citizens of Collin County in declaring Wednesday, 1-5 February 21, 2001, Collin County Day; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Named for the pioneer settler Collin McKinney, a 1-7 signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, Collin County 1-8 was created from Fannin County in 1846; the county is located in 1-9 Northeast Texas and was originally Caddo Indian country; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A major agricultural area that produces wheat, 1-11 hay, sorghum, and cotton, Collin County is famous for its rich, 1-12 black clay soil; the county's chief income producers are timber, 1-13 beef cattle, horses, and the dairy industry; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Over the years, industrial development and 1-15 population growth in the county have been managed with care 1-16 in order to preserve natural habitats and historical sites; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Today, residents and tourists enjoy visiting the 1-18 old homes that have been restored, as well as the Old Collin County 1-19 Post Office, the McKinney Historical District, and the Heard Natural 1-20 Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Collin County offers excellent recreational 2-1 opportunities, such as fishing and water sports at Lake Lavon; 2-2 McKinney, the county seat, is host to a trade center, a fashion 2-3 outlet, museums, the Bolin Wildlife Exhibit, and Wilson Creek Park; 2-4 and 2-5 WHEREAS, Plano is one of the state's fastest growing cities; 2-6 the city is a growing commercial and financial center and is home 2-7 to various manufacturing headquarters; it has an award-winning park 2-8 system, a farmers' market, and a premier 54-hole miniature golf 2-9 course; host to a balloon festival each September, Plano has become 2-10 known as the "Balloon Capital of Texas"; and 2-11 WHEREAS, While Collin County offers the opportunities 2-12 generated by fast-growing communities, its natural beauty and 2-13 rural charm have been retained, and the residents of Collin County 2-14 deserve to be proud of their efforts and planning; now, therefore, 2-15 be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-17 77th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the people of 2-18 Collin County for their many contributions to our state and extend 2-19 best wishes to them for a joyous and productive Collin County Day; 2-20 and, be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-22 the residents of Collin County as an expression of high regard 2-23 from the Texas Senate. 2-24 Shapiro 2-25 Haywood 3-1 Armbrister Fraser Shapleigh 3-2 Barrientos Gallegos Sibley 3-3 Bernsen Harris Staples 3-4 Bivins Jackson Truan 3-5 Brown Lindsay Van de Putte 3-6 Cain Lucio Wentworth 3-7 Carona Madla West 3-8 Duncan Moncrief Whitmire 3-9 Ellis Nelson Zaffirini 3-10 Ogden 3-11 Ratliff, President of the Senate 3-12 ______________________________________ 3-13 President of the Senate 3-14 I hereby certify that the above 3-15 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-16 on February 21, 2001. 3-17 ______________________________________ 3-18 Secretary of the Senate 3-19 ______________________________________ 3-20 Member, Texas Senate 3-21 ______________________________________ 3-22 Member, Texas Senate
