1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 318 1-3 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate takes great pride in recognizing 1-4 the Port of Corpus Christi and the Port of Corpus Christi 1-5 Commissioners, for their vision, cost-effectiveness, and 1-6 productivity; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Midway along the Texas coast on the Gulf of Mexico, 1-8 the Port of Corpus Christi has the advantage of a central 1-9 location, an ideal climate for year-round operations, heavy 1-10 lift capabilities, and excellent dockside storage; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Several key state and federal highways connect 1-12 Corpus Christi to United States and Mexican markets; Interstate 37 1-13 and United States Highway 181 are situated one mile from the port; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, The Port of Corpus Christi receives service from 1-16 three rail carriers: Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Texas Mexican 1-17 Railway Company, and Union Pacific Railroad; the public docks of 1-18 the port are served by 26 miles of port-owned rail lines operated 1-19 by the Corpus Christi Terminal Railroad; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Along with several other advantages, the Port 1-21 of Corpus Christi enjoys quick access to the Gulf Intracoastal 2-1 Waterway, where it intersects the Corpus Christi Ship Channel; 2-2 and 2-3 WHEREAS, Helping streamline United States Customs' paperwork, 2-4 the port's Foreign Trade Zone 122 allows companies to reduce, 2-5 defer, or avoid duties on imports; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The Port of Corpus Christi Commissioners 2-7 include: Chairwoman Yolanda Olivarez, Wells Fargo Bank 2-8 Senior Vice-President/Loan Officer, with over 20 years in 2-9 the financial industry; Vice Chairman Robert J. Gonzalez, Sr., 2-10 founder and senior partner with his brother in the law offices 2-11 of Gonzalez and Gonzalez; Secretary Kenneth L. Berry; member 2-12 William D. Dodge III, partner, Duran, Dodge, and Associates, 2-13 Insurance Brokers; member Bernard Paulson, President and CEO 2-14 of TOR Minerals International and Director of Corpus Christi 2-15 Bancshares; member Ruben Bonilla, attorney and partner with 2-16 Bonilla and Chapa law firm and former National LULAC President; 2-17 and member Anthony E.
