 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 325
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     join the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County in
 1-5     recognizing Beulah Ann Shepard as one of Houston's Outstanding
 1-6     African-American Leaders; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Friends and colleagues will gather to pay tribute
 1-8     to Beulah Shepard on February 23, 2001, at The Power Center in
 1-9     Houston as the Metropolitan Transit Authority hosts its annual
1-10     Black History Month celebration; and
1-11           WHEREAS, A highly respected leader who generously devotes
1-12     time and energy to community involvement, Beulah Shepard has
1-13     dedicated much of her life to the residents of Acres Home; she
1-14     worked hard to enhance the quality of life in the area, and due
1-15     to her hard work, the Houston City Council approved a swimming
1-16     pool and a library for her community; and
1-17           WHEREAS, In recognition of her tireless efforts on behalf
1-18     of her fellow citizens, The Acres Home Center for Economic
1-19     Development was dedicated as the Beulah Ann Shepard Building
1-20     on November 17, 2000; and
1-21           WHEREAS, This esteemed individual exemplifies the spirit
1-22     of the Democratic party and campaigned for John F. Kennedy,
 2-1     Lyndon Baines Johnson, Jim McConn, Fred Hofheinz, Barbara Jordan,
 2-2     Mickey Leland, State Senator John Whitmire, State Representative
 2-3     Sylvester Turner, and Commissioner E. A. Lyons; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Beulah Shepard is a woman to be admired and
 2-5     respected for her accomplishments; through her commitment
 2-6     and dedication, she has rendered the citizens of Acres Home
 2-7     an invaluable service, and she is truly worthy of legislative
 2-8     recognition; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-10     77th Legislature, hereby congratulate Beulah Ann Shepard
2-11     on being named an Outstanding African-American Leader by the
2-12     Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County and extend
2-13     best wishes for the future; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-15     her as a token of esteem from the Texas Senate.
