 1-4                                     of
 1-5                          James Daryl Verbois, Jr.
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Houston in mourning the loss of one of its most esteemed and
 1-8     well-loved citizens, James Daryl Verbois, Jr., who died
 1-9     February 5, 2001; and
1-10           WHEREAS, The life of one individual can have a remarkable
1-11     impact on the lives of many; such a person was Jim Verbois who
1-12     devoted his life to his family and the young people of our state;
1-13     and
1-14           WHEREAS, Born to James Daryl Verbois, Sr., and
1-15     Grace Werner Verbois on July 20, 1942, this native of
1-16     Houston graduated from Spring Branch High School and attended
1-17     The University of Texas at Austin and Sam Houston State
1-18     University; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Vitally interested in the welfare and progress of
1-20     others, Jim Verbois contributed much of his time and energy to
1-21     his community and his state; he was a board member and lifetime
 2-1     Vice President of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a member
 2-2     and past Trail Boss of the Salt Grass Trail Association, and a
 2-3     member of official Stock Show Wagons 4 and 7; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Considered by many as a motivating force in his
 2-5     community, the highly respected businessman was a member of the
 2-6     Houston Farm and Ranch Club and Rancheros Vistadores in California;
 2-7     he was past El Presidente of Tejas Vaqueros; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Widely known and admired as a quintessential
 2-9     Texan, Jim dedicated his life to preserving the lore and heritage
2-10     of Texas for future generations; he lived it, he loved it, and he
2-11     taught it; he was a gentleman among men who believed in Texas and
2-12     all that it represents; and
2-13           WHEREAS, The president of Town and Country Dry Cleaning
2-14     and owner of Pilgrim Cleaners Company 8, Jim Verbois was a man
2-15     of honesty and integrity; his infectious smile genuinely warmed
2-16     the hearts of friends and strangers alike; and
2-17           WHEREAS, A member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Jim Verbois
2-18     was a devout Christian who lived his faith in his daily life; he
2-19     was a devoted husband, father, and son, and he gave tirelessly of
2-20     himself for the betterment of others; and
2-21           WHEREAS, The death of such a colorful and vibrant individual
2-22     is felt not only by his family and friends, but also by the
2-23     people who benefitted from his generosity and community spirit,
 3-1     and it is indeed appropriate for the Texas Senate to honor the
 3-2     memory of this highly respected gentleman; now, therefore, be it
 3-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 3-4     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
 3-5     family of James Daryl Verbois, Jr.:  his beloved wife of 30
 3-6     years, Mary Ellen Verbois; his children, James Daryl Verbois III,
 3-7     Michelle Emilie Verbois, and Robert Craig Verbois; his parents,
 3-8     James Daryl Verbois, Sr., and Grace Werner Verbois; and his
 3-9     brother, Joel M. Verbois; and, be it further
3-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3-11     the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
3-12     from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
3-13     day, it do so in memory of James Daryl Verbois, Jr.
