 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 334
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate takes great pride in joining the
 1-4     Texas Association of Counties in recognizing April 25, 2001, as
 1-5     County Government Day at the Capitol; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The week of April 22 through 28, 2001, is being
 1-7     observed by the National Association of Counties as National
 1-8     County Government Week to provide the nation's citizens with
 1-9     an opportunity to honor the many contributions made by county
1-10     governments; and
1-11           WHEREAS, The oldest form of local government in the
1-12     United States, county government addresses many critical issues,
1-13     including environmental protection, indigent health care, special
1-14     assistance for the elderly, job training, and public safety; and
1-15           WHEREAS, There are 254 counties in Texas, and those
1-16     dedicated individuals who serve our counties as elected or
1-17     appointed officials not only work diligently to meet the needs
1-18     of citizens without placing an undue burden on taxpayers but
1-19     also commit themselves to finding solutions to problems that
1-20     will benefit all Texans; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Counties encourages
 2-2     citizens across the state to observe National County Government
 2-3     Week by learning more about this vital form of local government
 2-4     and the many ways in which it serves the public; now, therefore,
 2-5     be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     77th Legislature, hereby commend the county officials of
 2-8     this state for their countless contributions to Texas and
 2-9     welcome members of the Texas Association of Counties to the
2-10     State Capitol; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
2-12     prepared for the Texas Association of Counties as an expression
2-13     of high regard from the Texas Senate.
