 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 342
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 1-4     recognize Celebrate Texas for its sponsorship of this year's
 1-5     Texas Independence Day festivities; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Created two years ago by Austin businessman
 1-7     Jay Johnson, Celebrate Texas hosted last year's Texas Independence
 1-8     Day celebration on the Capitol grounds; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, This year, the organization is also sponsoring
1-10     one of the largest parades in the city's history, one that will
1-11     consist of military bands, high school bands, floats, and
1-12     horseback riders; the Capitol grounds celebration will be
1-13     accompanied by music ranging from conjunto to gospel to jazz to
1-14     western swing; and
1-15           WHEREAS, The slogan and theme of the Texas Independence Day
1-16     celebration is "Together We're Texas," emphasizing that the holiday
1-17     belongs to all Texans and that the celebration will be a mosaic of
1-18     the Lone Star State's many different cultures; and
1-19           WHEREAS, In addition to the March 2 festivities, Celebrate
1-20     Texas is hosting a Texas Independence Day State Championship
1-21     Bar-B-Q Cookoff in Dripping Springs on Saturday, March 3, 2001;
1-22     since barbecue is a treasured tradition in Texas, the cookoff is
 2-1     an appropriate addition to the Texas Independence Day celebrations;
 2-2     and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Celebrate Texas deserves recognition for
 2-4     organizing these festive events and for bringing Texans together
 2-5     in celebration of Texas Independence Day; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     77th Legislature, hereby commend the members of Celebrate Texas
 2-8     on their hard work and superior planning and express appreciation
 2-9     to them for organizing these Texas Independence Day activities;
2-10     and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
2-12     for Celebrate Texas as an expression of esteem from the
2-13     Texas Senate.
