 1-4                                     of
 1-5                             John Anthony Riojas
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of San Antonio in mourning the tragic loss of
 1-8     John Anthony "Rocky" Riojas, who died February 3, 2001, at the
 1-9     age of 37; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Born and raised on San Antonio's Southeast Side,
1-11     Rocky Riojas attended Saint Gerard Catholic High School; he was a
1-12     talented athlete and was a Golden Gloves boxer while in his teens;
1-13     he graduated from the San Antonio Police Academy in 1989 and joined
1-14     the San Antonio Police Department, where he became a member of its
1-15     elite SWAT team; he was killed while serving in the line of duty;
1-16     and
1-17           WHEREAS, Rocky Riojas was devoted to his work as a policeman
1-18     and was dedicated to making the streets of San Antonio a safer place
1-19     in which to live, work, and raise a family; and
1-20           WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Rocky was respected in
1-21     the community for his many accomplishments and received numerous
 2-1     accolades for his outstanding work as an officer in the police
 2-2     department; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, He was greatly admired by his fellow police
 2-4     officers and was noted for his tenacity, his courage, and his
 2-5     dependability; a man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
 2-6     gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth,
 2-7     and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Rocky Riojas lived his life to the fullest and was
 2-9     a devoted husband, father, and son, and he leaves behind memories
2-10     that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now,
2-11     therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-14     bereaved family of John Anthony Riojas:  his wife, Sandra F. Riojas;
2-15     his daughter, Victoria Renee Riojas; his son, John Michael Riojas;
2-16     his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isidoro D. Riojas, Jr.; his sisters and
2-17     brothers-in-law, JoAnn and Steve Felter, Julie Ann Riojas, and
2-18     Jolanda Sanchez and David Sanchez; his brother, Guy Riojas; and
2-19     his grandparents, Josephine Riojas and Adolph J. Trevino; and, be
2-20     it further
2-21           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-22     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-23     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-24     in memory of Rocky Riojas.
