 1-4                                     of
 1-5                       Edith Lanita Whitmore Robertson
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Dallas in mourning the loss of Edith Lanita Whitmore Robertson,
 1-8     who died February 17, 2001; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born December 10, 1918, Edith was the first of
1-10     nine children born to Elisha and Easter Elizabeth Whitmore; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Early on, Edith demonstrated a sharp mind and an
1-12     ability to learn swiftly; she skipped several grades in elementary
1-13     school and remained an honor student the entire time she attended
1-14     Booker T. Washington High School; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Edith remained passionate
1-16     about her faith; she was proud to be a lifetime member of the
1-17     Munger Avenue Baptist Church, where she was baptized at age seven;
1-18     and
1-19           WHEREAS, Steadfastly devoted to her church family, Edith
1-20     served Munger Avenue Baptist Church in so many capacities; Sunday
1-21     School teacher, choir member, and committee member were but three
1-22     of the titles she held during her 75 years of church attendance;
 2-1     and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Edith was the loving wife of Alfonso D. Robertson,
 2-3     whom she married on December 23, 1941, and the mother of one
 2-4     daughter, Sharon Wells; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
 2-6     Edith gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom,
 2-7     warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
 2-8     knew her; she leaves her friends and family memories that they
 2-9     will forever treasure; now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family
2-12     of Edith Lanita Whitmore Robertson:  her daughter, Sharon Wells;
2-13     her grandson, Christopher Hudson; and her two great-grandsons,
2-14     Zachary Ryan Hudson and Cameron Pierce Hudson; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
2-16     family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
2-17     and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-18     Edith Lanita Whitmore Robertson.
