 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     join the Texas Commission on Human Rights in recognizing
 1-5     William M. Hale, who retired February 15, 2001, bringing to
 1-6     a close a career marked by more than 17 years of exceptional
 1-7     service as Executive Director; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, As a capable and visionary national and
 1-9     international leader in the human rights community over the past
1-10     41 years, Mr. Hale has earned the respect and admiration of all
1-11     those with whom he has worked; and
1-12           WHEREAS, The exemplary public servant has conscientiously
1-13     performed his duties with expert care and dedication making the
1-14     Texas Commission on Human Rights into one of the premier human
1-15     rights commissions in the United States; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Distinguishing himself as a member of the
1-17     International Association of Official Human Rights Agencies
1-18     for 18 years, Mr. Hale served as president for two terms and was
1-19     presented the association's Individual Human Rights Achievement
1-20     Award; and
1-21           WHEREAS, A highly recognized figure in his field, Mr. Hale
1-22     has made many notable achievements throughout his career; he
 2-1     helped secure passage of the Texas Fair Housing Act and the
 2-2     Texas Commission on Human Rights Act; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, This able administrator contributed immeasurably
 2-4     to the establishment and progress of the Texas Commission on Human
 2-5     Rights through his commitment, leadership, and creativity, and his
 2-6     endeavors are truly worthy of legislative recognition; now,
 2-7     therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-9     77th Legislature, hereby commend William M. Hale for his many
2-10     years of exceptional public service and extend best wishes for
2-11     the future; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-13     him  as a token of esteem and high regard from the Texas Senate.
