 1-5                              Keith George Ruiz
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of Austin and law enforcement officers throughout the
 1-8     state in mourning the tragic loss of Keith George Ruiz, who died
 1-9     February 15, 2001, at the age of 36; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Senior Deputy Keith Ruiz was a 12-year veteran of
1-11     the Travis County Sheriff's Department and a member of the elite
1-12     SWAT team; he was killed in the line of duty while conducting a
1-13     drug raid; and
1-14           WHEREAS, This distinguished young man graduated from
1-15     Crockett High School and received his criminal justice degree
1-16     from Southwest Texas State University; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Keith was dedicated to his work in law enforcement
1-18     and was committed to making Travis County a safer place in which
1-19     to live, work, and raise families; and
1-20           WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman who distinguished himself
 2-1     in his profession, Keith Ruiz was respected for his many
 2-2     accomplishments and was beloved by his colleagues for his courage,
 2-3     tenacity, and dependability; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Keith was also an avid sportsman who enjoyed sharing
 2-5     his love of the outdoors with his sons; he served as their T-ball
 2-6     and baseball coach for 10 years and often planned weekend outings
 2-7     with his family; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, Keith
 2-9     gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and
2-10     sense of humor will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Keith Ruiz lived his life to the fullest and was a
2-12     devoted husband, father, and son, and he leaves behind memories
2-13     that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now,
2-14     therefore, be it
2-15           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-16     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-17     bereaved family of Keith George Ruiz:  his loving wife,
2-18     Bernadette Ortiz Ruiz; his sons, Matthew Anthony, Alexander Jesse,
2-19     and Joshua Keith; his parents, George and Mary Ruiz; his sister,
2-20     Shirley Littleton; and his brother, Kenneth Ruiz; and, be it
2-21     further
2-22           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-23     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-24     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
 3-1     in memory of Keith Ruiz.
