 1-3           WHEREAS, On February 28, 2001, proud citizens from Vernon,
 1-4     Crowell, and Quanah are gathering in Austin to celebrate Western
 1-5     Heritage Group Day at the State Capitol; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Western Heritage Group strives to ensure that
 1-7     industries in these fine towns continue to thrive; its members
 1-8     support further growth in the business community and promote a
 1-9     positive vision of the future; and
1-10           WHEREAS, The Western Heritage Group is made up of community
1-11     leaders, including mayors, bankers, store owners, chamber of
1-12     commerce members, and other economic development personnel; by
1-13     uniting and addressing the challenging issues that face their
1-14     communities, these admirable Texans are laying the foundation
1-15     for prosperity in the years ahead; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Vernon, Crowell, and Quanah share many
1-17     characteristics; they are rural communities with economies
1-18     that are based on farming, ranching, and oil production, and
1-19     they serve as the county seats of their respective counties; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Located in Hardeman County, Quanah has been
1-21     designated a Texas Main Street city and features the historic
1-22     Medicine Mounds; moreover, the 1,933-acre Copper Breaks State Park
1-23     is a popular destination for outdoor and water enthusiasts; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Established in 1891, Crowell is part of
 2-2     Foard County, and its Depot Library/Museum and Firehall Museum
 2-3     reflect the town's rich history and heritage and attract visitors
 2-4     from across the Lone Star State; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Originally to be named Eagle Flat, Vernon is
 2-6     in Wilbarger County and is home of the Santa Rosa Palomino Club;
 2-7     this unique precision equestrian riding club earned the distinction
 2-8     of being selected as Texas' Ambassadors on Horseback by the
 2-9     Texas Legislature; and
2-10           WHEREAS, With their proactive approach and creative vision,
2-11     the members of the Western Heritage Group are making immeasurable
2-12     contributions to their communities and a positive impact on the
2-13     State of Texas, and it is indeed most appropriate to pay tribute
2-14     to them at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-15           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-16     77th Legislature, hereby recognize February 28, 2001, as Western
2-17     Heritage Group Day at the State Capitol and extend to the Western
2-18     Heritage Group sincere best wishes for success in its ongoing
2-19     endeavors.
