 1-5                               Susie Velasquez
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Susie Velasquez,
 1-8     who died February 15, 2001, at the age of 79; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, A gracious and loving wife, mother, and
1-10     grandmother, she will be forever gratefully remembered for
1-11     her generosity of spirit, her compassion, and her devotion
1-12     to her family; and
1-13           WHEREAS, An active and faithful member of Saint Mary's
1-14     Cathedral and the Legion of Mary Society, the devout Catholic
1-15     believed strongly in practicing her faith in her daily life and
1-16     was at all times ready to give of her time to help others; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Mrs. Velasquez was a talented and generous woman
1-18     known for her love of gardening, sewing, and music; she received
1-19     much enjoyment from sharing the rewards of her labors with her
1-20     family and friends; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Having given so generously of herself throughout
 2-1     her allotted time, this warm and compassionate individual leaves
 2-2     a legacy of love and commitment that will live on in the memories
 2-3     of all whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-5     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences
 2-6     to the family of Susie Velasquez:  her beloved husband of
 2-7     54 years, Matias Velasquez; her children, Charles A. Flores,
 2-8     Michael and Josie Velasquez, Francis and Elsa Velasquez,
 2-9     Yolanda Velasquez, Barbara Velasquez Rivera, Monica Larson,
2-10     Jerri Tymniak, and James Stewart; and her 13 grandchildren
2-11     and three great-grandchildren; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-13     the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
2-14     from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
2-15     day, it do so in memory of Susie Velasquez.
