 1-5                            Manuel Mendoza Arispe
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of one of the city's
 1-8     most beloved and highly respected citizens, Manuel Mendoza Arispe,
 1-9     who died February 13, 2001, at the age of 60; and
1-10           WHEREAS, His genuine warmth will be deeply missed for he
1-11     touched the lives of many with his generosity of spirit; and
1-12           WHEREAS, A native of East Austin, Mr. Arispe was born in
1-13     1940 to the late Jose and Encarnaciona Arispe; the retired cab
1-14     driver and convenience store clerk dedicated his life to
1-15     delivering happiness to Austin's senior citizens after the loss
1-16     of his daughter, Melanie; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Founding Operation We Care 14 years ago,
1-18     Mr. Arispe single-handedly turned his one-man crusade into
1-19     a citywide charitable Valentine's Day event with over 700
1-20     participants; volunteers provided valentine cards, candy, and
1-21     entertainment to various retirement and assisted living homes
 2-1     around Austin and countless lives were brightened; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, The death of such a dedicated and well-respected
 2-3     gentleman is felt not only by his family, but also by the people
 2-4     who benefitted from his community spirit; now, therefore, be it
 2-5           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-6     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
 2-7     family of Manuel Mendoza Arispe:  the mother of his children,
 2-8     Julia Delia Sanchez; his daughter and son-in-law, Carolina Serrano
 2-9     and Nicholas Sisti; his sons and daughter-in-law,
2-10     Carlos Anthony Arispe and John Manuel Arispe and Brenda Arispe;
2-11     and his six grandchildren; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his
2-13     family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
2-14     and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-15     Manuel Mendoza Arispe.
