1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 384 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 recognize the valuable work of Boys and Girls Clubs in Texas 1-5 and to honor the young person who will be the winner of the 1-6 organizations' Texas State Youth of the Year contest; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs are in neighborhood-based 1-8 buildings in 122 cities in Texas which serve an estimated 275,000 1-9 school-aged young people; they provide at-risk boys and girls with 1-10 an after-school experience that will help them realize their full 1-11 potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens; and 1-12 WHEREAS, With facilities that are open to children on a 1-13 daily basis, Boys and Girls Clubs employ full-time, trained youth 1-14 development professionals who act as positive role models and 1-15 mentors; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Through strong, proven development programs that 1-17 stress character and leadership development, education and career 1-18 development, health and life skills, and the arts, sports, 1-19 fitness, and recreation, Boys and Girls Clubs help children achieve 1-20 positive self-identities, life management skills, and strong moral 1-21 compasses; and 1-22 WHEREAS, On March 8, Boys and Girls Clubs across Texas will 1-23 choose one member as their Texas State Youth of the Year; this 2-1 person will have the great honor of representing Texas at the 2-2 National Youth of the Year contest for Boys and Girls Clubs of 2-3 America; and 2-4 WHEREAS, A program which aspires to the highest degree of 2-5 altruism, Boys and Girls Clubs help Texas and its children 2-6 achieve a brighter future; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 77th Legislature, hereby commend Boys and Girls Clubs across 2-9 Texas for the invaluable service they render to Texas families 2-10 and congratulate the winner of the Texas State Youth of the Year 2-11 contest on that person's grand accomplishment; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-13 all the Boys and Girls Clubs of Texas and for the designated Texas 2-14 State Youth of the Year as an expression of great esteem from the 2-15 Texas Senate. 2-16 Ogden 2-17 Armbrister Gallegos Shapiro 2-18 Barrientos Harris Shapleigh 2-19 Bernsen Haywood Sibley 2-20 Bivins Jackson Staples 2-21 Brown Lindsay Truan 2-22 Cain Lucio Van de Putte 2-23 Carona Madla Wentworth 2-24 Duncan Moncrief West 2-25 Ellis Nelson Whitmire 2-26 Fraser Zaffirini 2-27 Ratliff, President of the Senate 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 President of the Senate 2-30 I hereby certify that the above 2-31 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-32 on March 8, 2001. 2-33 ______________________________________ 2-34 Secretary of the Senate 3-1 ______________________________________ 3-2 Member, Texas Senate
