 1-4                                     of
 1-5                              Everett Blackburn
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of Big Spring in mourning the loss of Everett Blackburn,
 1-8     who died January 30, 2001, at the age of 46; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born February 9, 1954, in the State of Kansas,
1-10     Everett Blackburn moved to Big Spring following his work at
1-11     Emporia State University; he joined the Big Spring Independent
1-12     School District, where he was employed for 11 years before
1-13     becoming the athletic trainer at Howard College; and
1-14           WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Mr. Blackburn had spent
1-15     11 years at Howard College and was a nationally known athletic
1-16     trainer; in 1993, he was inducted into the National Athletic
1-17     Trainers Association's Hall of Fame, and in 1999, he was the
1-18     youngest member ever to be inducted into the Southwest Athletic
1-19     Trainers Association's Hall of Fame; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Mr. Blackburn was devoted to his work and was
1-21     noted for turning out top-notch, dedicated trainers; his students
1-22     were taught with hands-on training techniques by working at area
 2-1     school games; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman,
 2-3     Everett Blackburn was respected for his many accomplishments
 2-4     and for his leadership in his community and in his profession; in
 2-5     1992, he was presented with the Eddie Wojicki Award for being the
 2-6     best athletic trainer in Texas and Oklahoma, and Howard College
 2-7     recently honored him by establishing the Everett Blackburn
 2-8     Scholarship; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
2-10     gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and
2-11     valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
2-12           WHEREAS, Everett Blackburn lived his life to the fullest,
2-13     and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
2-14     his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
2-15           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-16     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-17     bereaved family of Everett Blackburn; and, be it further
2-18           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-19     the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
2-20     from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
2-21     it do so in memory of Everett Blackburn.
