 1-5                           Charles Vincent Prothro
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with
 1-7     citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of well-known entrepreneur
 1-8     and beloved civic leader Charles Vincent Prothro, who died
 1-9     November 16, 2000; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Born September 7, 1942, Vin Prothro, a native of
1-11     Wichita Falls, was admired and respected by a great many people
1-12     for his intellect, charisma, and kindness; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Vin graduated from Stanford University before
1-14     returning to Dallas to become a businessman; he rose to prominence
1-15     in the high-technology industry, ultimately serving as chairman,
1-16     chief executive officer, and president of the highly successful
1-17     Dallas Semiconductor; and
1-18           WHEREAS, To his friends and colleagues Vin seemed to possess
1-19     boundless energy; a man of vision, he got things done, and Dallas
1-20     benefitted greatly from his prodigious efforts; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Vin distinguished himself among his fellow
 2-2     philanthropists in that his gifts went beyond financial generosity;
 2-3     Vin fully committed himself to his projects, taking an active role
 2-4     in their planning and development and using his keen intellect to
 2-5     help solve problems and his wonderful sense of humor to entertain
 2-6     all those involved; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
 2-8     at Dallas, Southern Methodist University, and, in particular, the
 2-9     Dallas Museum of Art were recipients of Vin's generosity; in 1999,
2-10     Vin received the Annette G. Strauss Humanitarian Award for his
2-11     outstanding community service; and
2-12           WHEREAS, The untimely death of Vin Prothro has occasioned
2-13     a great loss for the State of Texas; a man of great mental and
2-14     spiritual strength, he accomplished great things for his state
2-15     and was poised to do even more; the legacy he leaves is indeed
2-16     distinguished; now, therefore, be it
2-17           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State Texas,
2-18     77th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of
2-19     Charles Vincent Prothro and extend sincere condolences to
2-20     his beloved family:  his wife, Caren Harvey Prothro; his son,
2-21     Vincent Harvey Prothro; his daughter, Nita Prothro Clark; his
2-22     parents, Charles and Elizabeth Prothro; and his two granddaughters;
2-23     and, be it further
2-24           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
 3-1     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
 3-2     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
 3-3     do so in memory of Charles Vincent Prothro.
