1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 416 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure 1-4 in recognizing Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Seay of Dallas for their 1-5 outstanding philanthropic endeavors; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Sadie and Charlie Seay have recently donated the 1-7 substantial sum of $13 million to improve emergency and intensive 1-8 care for local children; the sum is being shared by three 1-9 institutions; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The recipients of the Seay's largesse are 1-11 The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, 1-12 the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, and the Children's 1-13 Medical Center of Dallas; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Frequent donors to the medical school and other 1-15 related institutions, Mr. and Mrs. Seay have given past gifts 1-16 which have included $10 million toward a new University of Texas 1-17 Southwestern Medical Center research facility and $6 million 1-18 to improve pediatric care at the two children's hospitals and 1-19 the medical school; and 1-20 WHEREAS, More than half of the $13 million gift will endow 1-21 the Sarah M. and Charles E. Seay Comprehensive Center for Pediatric 1-22 Emergency and Intensive Care at The University of Texas Southwestern 1-23 Medical Center; and 2-1 WHEREAS, The endowment income will pay for pediatric 2-2 illnesses research and investigation into pediatric injuries, 2-3 including damage to the spinal cord and brain, diseases of the 2-4 brain and spinal cord, and heart and lung emergencies; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Seay have been contributors to 2-6 Children's Medical Center since 1957, and previously they 2-7 established the Seay Emergency Center, the pediatric emergency 2-8 room at the hospital; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Their concern for children is legendary, and 2-10 they have played a major role in the betterment of Dallas 2-11 and the surrounding area; and 2-12 WHEREAS, An exemplary couple, Sadie and Charlie Seay are 2-13 a source of strength to many, and their worthy accomplishments 2-14 reflect their dedication and their commitment to their fellowman; 2-15 now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-17 77th Legislature, hereby commend Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Seay on 2-18 their exceptional achievements and contributions to Dallas and 2-19 the State of Texas; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-21 them as a token of highest esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-22 Shapiro 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 President of the Senate 2-25 I hereby certify that the above 2-26 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-27 on March 7, 2001. 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Secretary of the Senate 3-1 ______________________________________ 3-2 Member, Texas Senate
