 1-4                                     of
 1-5                             Edwin Arnold Spacek
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of Quitman in mourning the loss of Edwin Arnold Spacek,
 1-8     who died January 7, 2001, at the age of 90; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born July 3, 1910, in Granger, Texas, Edwin Spacek
1-10     graduated from Texas Tech University, where he was a participant
1-11     in a dance orchestra that performed throughout West Texas and was
1-12     one of the founding members of the Silver Key Fraternity; he
1-13     served with distinction in the United States Army Air Corps during
1-14     World War II; he was married to the late Virginia Spilman Spacek;
1-15     and
1-16           WHEREAS, Mr. Spacek was dedicated to his work as the
1-17     Wood County Agricultural Extension Agent with Texas A&M University
1-18     from 1946 until his retirement in 1975; and
1-19           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman, he was
1-20     respected for his many accomplishments and his leadership in the
1-21     community; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, He was the past director of the West Texas Chamber
 2-2     of Commerce and was a longtime member and past president of the
 2-3     Quitman Chapter of Rotary International; he was instrumental in
 2-4     the restoration of the historic Stinson House and was active in
 2-5     the development of the county's four lakes; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, He was a devout Christian and a member of the
 2-7     Methodist faith; he was an avid fly fisherman; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
 2-9     gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth,
2-10     and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him;
2-11     and
2-12           WHEREAS, Edwin Spacek lived his life to the fullest and
2-13     was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves
2-14     behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family
2-15     and many friends; now, therefore, be it
2-16           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-17     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to
2-18     the bereaved family of Edwin Arnold Spacek:  his son and
2-19     daughter-in-law, Ed Spacek, Jr., and Tannie Spacek; his
2-20     daughter and son-in-law, Sissy Spacek and Jack Fisk; his
2-21     sister, Rose Byrd; and his five grandchildren, Stephen, Mark,
2-22     Austin, Schuyler, and Madison; and, be it further
2-23           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-24     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
 3-1     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
 3-2     do so in memory of Edwin Spacek.
