1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 434 1-3 WHEREAS, On March 7, 2001, residents of Jasper are gathering 1-4 in Austin to celebrate Jasper Day at the State Capitol; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The county and its county seat were named for 1-6 American Revolutionary War hero, William Jasper; one of the 1-7 original counties of the Republic of Texas, Jasper is also the 1-8 location of the grave of the only known soldier of the American 1-9 Revolution to be buried in Texas; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Jasper has undergone many 1-11 changes and now has a diverse economy that revolves around 1-12 petroleum, manufacturing, tourism, and also the timber industry; 1-13 and 1-14 WHEREAS, The county's lakes and more than 21,000 acres 1-15 of the Angelina National Forest have made it a popular destination 1-16 for outdoor and water enthusiasts; the area is well known as a 1-17 haven for bass fishing and is considered by many Lone Star State 1-18 residents as the Bass Fishing Capital of the World; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The City of Jasper has a number of outstanding 1-20 attractions, including the Beaty-Orton House, Hidden Falls Ranch, 1-21 the Jasper County Courthouse, and the Old Jail Museum; moreover, 1-22 city residents enjoy celebrating the Fall Festival, Christmas 2-1 on the Square, Azalea Festival, and the Fourth of July Jamboree; 2-2 and 2-3 WHEREAS, Jasper is also the home of the Jasper News Boy, 2-4 a weekly newspaper that has been published continuously since 2-5 1865; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Jasper residents are embracing the myriad 2-7 challenges and opportunities of the future and it is most 2-8 appropriate to pay tribute to them at this time; now, therefore, 2-9 be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-11 77th Legislature, hereby recognize March 7, 2001, as Jasper Day 2-12 at the State Capitol and extend to its citizens sincere best 2-13 wishes for the future. 2-14 Staples 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 President of the Senate 2-17 I hereby certify that the above 2-18 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-19 on March 8, 2001. 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 Secretary of the Senate 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 Member, Texas Senate
