 1-3           WHEREAS, March 14, 2001, marks Cedar Creek Lake Area Day
 1-4     at the State Capitol, and this outstanding occasion presents an
 1-5     opportune time to extol the virtues of the largest residential lake
 1-6     in Texas, with 38,000 surface acres and 310 miles of shoreline; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The Cedar Creek Reservoir was built in the 1960s,
 1-8     but several of its communities date back to the early 19th century;
 1-9     at that time, the westward expansion of farmers and settlers led to
1-10     the development of the towns of Malakoff, Mabank, Tool, Trinidad,
1-11     Eustace, and Kemp; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Today, other communities surrounding the lake
1-13     include Gun Barrel City, Seven Points, Star Harbor, Caney City,
1-14     Enchanted Oaks, Payne Springs, and Log Cabin; and
1-15           WHEREAS, An ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts, the
1-16     area also has forward-looking citizens who have demonstrated
1-17     their dedication to academic excellence through their support of
1-18     the area's fine schools and libraries; school spirit is alive and
1-19     well in Trinidad, home to the State 6-Man Football Championship
1-20     team, the Trinidad Trojans, and Seven Points residents raised more
1-21     than $700,000 to build a new library in the town that is also the
1-22     site of a new branch of Trinity Valley Community College; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, In addition, the area has a number of thriving
 2-2     businesses, including Solar Turbines in Mabank, which won the
 2-3     Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award for small business development
 2-4     and leadership; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, The Cedar Creek Lake Area offers residents and
 2-6     visitors alike the opportunity to enjoy lake country living at its
 2-7     best, and it is indeed a privilege to pay tribute to this splendid
 2-8     area and its citizens at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-10     77th Legislature, hereby recognize March 14, 2001, as
2-11     Cedar Creek Lake Area Day at the State Capitol and wish the
2-12     delegation visiting on this day a memorable and productive trip
2-13     to the seat of Texas government.
