 1-3           WHEREAS, The year 2001 marks the 125th anniversary of the
 1-4     State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas and the
 1-5     40th anniversary of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Established in 1876 to promote, unify, represent,
 1-7     and educate members of the state's fire service community, the
 1-8     State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas is the
 1-9     oldest trade association in Texas and one of the state's largest;
1-10     and
1-11           WHEREAS, Today, the association counts more than 1,000
1-12     fire departments and over 16,000 individuals among its members
1-13     from the volunteer, industrial, and career sectors of the state
1-14     and more than 100 associate memberships from the related fire
1-15     industry; and
1-16           WHEREAS, An affiliate of the Texas Municipal League, the
1-17     Texas Fire Chiefs Association was organized in 1961 to promote the
1-18     fire service as a profession, improve methods of fire prevention,
1-19     protection, and extinguishment, and maintain high standards of
1-20     professional ethics; its membership is composed of over 200 career,
1-21     volunteer, and industrial fire chiefs and associate members; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Members of the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals'
1-23     Association of Texas and the Texas Fire Chiefs Association handle
 2-1     their responsibilities with efficiency and dedication to those they
 2-2     so conscientiously serve; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Their meritorious work and exemplary devotion to
 2-4     their communities have earned them the respect and admiration of
 2-5     all the citizens of Texas; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     77th Legislature, hereby commend the State Firemen's and
 2-8     Fire Marshals' Association of Texas and the Texas Fire Chiefs
 2-9     Association and recognize March 14, 2001, as Firefighters Day
2-10     at the State Capitol.
