1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 466 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Thomas Gerard Tullius 1-6 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of 1-7 El Paso, Texas, in mourning the recent death of 1-8 Thomas Gerard Tullius, outstanding engineer and scientist; 1-9 and 1-10 WHEREAS, A native El Pasoan, Thomas was born on 1-11 May 26, 1961, to Raymond and Virginia Reynolds Tullius; he 1-12 was the ninth of 12 children; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Thomas graduated from Ysleta High School 1-14 in the top 10 percent of his class in 1979; he attended 1-15 The University of Texas at El Paso, graduating with honors 1-16 in 1983 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical 1-17 engineering; and 1-18 WHEREAS, In June, 1983, Thomas took a job with the 1-19 Army Corps of Engineers; in November, 1983, he married 1-20 Patricia Vega; in October, 1984, he transferred to White Sands 1-21 Missile Range, taking a permanent position in the National Range 2-1 Optics Branch; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Tom Tullius was dedicated to his work and served 2-3 as the lead engineer in modification and upgrades of the advanced 2-4 optical mount used for testing at the White Sands Missile Range; 2-5 from 1992 until his death in 2000, he was Chief, Air Force 2-6 Engineering, Deputy for Air Force, 46th Test Group; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Thomas G. Tullius was recognized as the White Sands 2-8 Missile Range Engineer and Scientist of the Year in 1995; the 2-9 award was for superior achievements and leadership in 12 Air Force 2-10 Test Evaluation and Scientific programs; and 2-11 WHEREAS, The impressive accomplishments of Thomas Tullius 2-12 reflect great credit upon Mr. Tullius and Team White Sands Missile 2-13 Range; throughout his career, Tom received many honors for 2-14 performance and special act awards for notable achievement; and 2-15 WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Tom Tullius and his wife, 2-16 Patricia, enjoyed their children, Thomas Gerard Tullius, Jr., 2-17 and twin daughters Jami Frances Tullius and Toni Kathleen Tullius; 2-18 the three children have excelled in academics and athletics because 2-19 of his teachings and positive attitudes; and 2-20 WHEREAS, A man who gave generously of his time to coach 2-21 his children and other young people in soccer and basketball, 2-22 Tom taught all his teams excellent manners, good sportsmanship, 2-23 and goodwill; these are qualities which will stay with the young 3-1 players for the rest of their lives; and 3-2 WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, he leaves memories 3-3 which will always be cherished by his family and many friends; 3-4 now, therefore, be it 3-5 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-6 77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 3-7 family of Thomas Gerard Tullius: his wife, Patricia; his son, 3-8 Thomas Gerard Tullius, Jr.; and his daughters, Jami Frances and 3-9 Toni Kathleen Tullius; and, be it further 3-10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 3-11 for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 3-12 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do 3-13 so in memory of Thomas Gerard Tullius. 3-14 Shapleigh 3-15 ______________________________________ 3-16 President of the Senate 3-17 I hereby certify that the above 3-18 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-19 on March 14, 2001, by a rising vote. 3-20 ______________________________________ 3-21 Secretary of the Senate 3-22 ______________________________________ 3-23 Member, Texas Senate
