 1-4                                     of
 1-5                           Rafael Olvera Rodriguez
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of El Paso in mourning the loss of Sergeant Rafael Olvera Rodriguez,
 1-8     who died February 12, 2001, at the age of 23; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born in Juarez, Mexico, on January 30, 1978, he was
1-10     the oldest of three siblings and graduated from Riverside High
1-11     School; finding the true love of his life, Rafael married his
1-12     beloved, Norma, on June 4, 1998; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Following his dream of becoming a general, this
1-14     courageous young man volunteered to serve his country on
1-15     August 6, 1998, as a member of the United States Army; he served
1-16     with the 2nd Battalion, 11th Field Artillery, 25th Infantry
1-17     Division, until being assigned to Bravo Battery as a cannon
1-18     crewman; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The artilleryman displayed great ability in the
1-20     performance of his duties; his firm determination and
 2-1     professionalism earned Rafael the distinction of being chosen
 2-2     the Battalion Operations Officer's driver; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, During his tour of duty, this man of valor, honor,
 2-4     and integrity was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the
 2-5     Army Achievement Medal; Sergeant Olvera was a role model for all
 2-6     who had the pleasure to work with him, and his memory will live
 2-7     on in the hearts and minds of all whose lives he touched; now,
 2-8     therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-10     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-11     bereaved family of Rafael Olvera Rodriguez:  his beloved wife,
2-12     Norma Olvera; his parents, Rafael and Leticia Olvera; his sister,
2-13     Carmen; and his brother, Jorge; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-15     the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
2-16     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
2-17     so in memory of Rafael Olvera Rodriguez.
