1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 473 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly 1-4 recognizes Reverend Randy G. Vaughn on the occasion of his 1-5 recent election as the sixth president of the Texas State 1-6 Missionary Baptist Convention, Incorporated; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Organized in 1931, the Texas State Missionary 1-8 Baptist Convention, Incorporated, is a cooperative effort of 1-9 associations, churches, and individuals who are committed to 1-10 spreading the gospel and to helping other churches and 1-11 associations, as well as various community ministries across 1-12 our state; Reverend Vaughn will serve as its president for a 1-13 three-year term; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The pastor of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church 1-15 for the last 17 years, Reverend Vaughn has ministered faithfully 1-16 to the spiritual needs of innumerable Christians; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Under his outstanding leadership, the Mount Sinai 1-18 Missionary Baptist Church has grown from 250 members to 1-19 approximately 800 members and has become a source of enlightenment, 1-20 hope, and support to the people of Jefferson County; and 1-21 WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, 2-1 Reverend Vaughn has conducted religious revivals in cities across 2-2 our nation and is a well-known theologian and is much sought after 2-3 as a speaker; Reverend Vaughn was selected to offer the opening 2-4 benediction for the Texas Senate on February 5, 2001; and 2-5 WHEREAS, A highly respected community leader, Pastor Vaughn 2-6 has served as dean of the American Baptist College and as 2-7 treasurer of the Black Pastors Association of Port Arthur; he is 2-8 the founder of the Haiti Missionary Support Group and of GodFather 2-9 Clubs of Port Arthur; he is also the founder of the Organization of 2-10 Christians Assisting People, Incorporated, which helps people to 2-11 attain their General Education Development diploma and offers 2-12 substance abuse counseling; and 2-13 WHEREAS, As a tribute to his hard work and many 2-14 accomplishments in Jefferson County, Pastor Vaughn was selected 2-15 for The 10 People Who Made a World of Difference Award in 1991; 2-16 he received the Outstanding Service Award from the Port Arthur 2-17 Chamber of Commerce in 1996 and has been listed in the national 2-18 register of "Who's Who Among Executives and Professionals" for 2-19 2000-2001; now, therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-21 77th Legislature, hereby commend Reverend Randy G.
