 1-3                                  In Memory
 1-4                                     of
 1-5                               Elvira Elizondo
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of San Antonio in mourning the passing of esteemed
 1-8     businesswoman Mrs. Elvira Elizondo, who died February 23, 2001;
 1-9     and
1-10           WHEREAS, A native of South Bexar County, she was
1-11     born October 17, 1915, to the late Elvira and Eliseo Sorola;
1-12     after marrying Raymond R. Carvajal, the devoted couple operated
1-13     Buena Vista Grocery and provided a secure and loving home for
1-14     their two sons; and
1-15           WHEREAS, A faithful and devout member of El Carmen
1-16     Catholic Church, Mrs. Elizondo lived her faith in her daily life;
1-17     she gave tirelessly of her time and energy serving as bookkeeper
1-18     for the pastor; an active participant in the Confraternity of
1-19     Christian Doctrine program and church auction, she also assisted
1-20     the Daughters of Charity; and
1-21           WHEREAS, The charter member of the Buena Vista Fire
1-22     Department married Pete Elizondo on December 23, 1978; she and
 2-1     her beloved shared many years of happiness raising their combined
 2-2     families, and they were actively involved in Sembradores De Amistad;
 2-3     and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Devoted to her family and community,
 2-5     Mrs. Vera Elizondo will be affectionately remembered for her
 2-6     generosity of spirit and strength of character; now, therefore,
 2-7     be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-9     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-10     bereaved family of Elvira Elizondo:  her husband, Pete Elizondo;
2-11     her sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Bobbie Carvajal, and
2-12     Charlie and Kathy Carvajal; her stepsons, Edward Elizondo and
2-13     Arthur Elizondo; her stepdaughter, Elizabeth Sanchez; and her
2-14     12 grandchildren; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
2-16     for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-17     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
2-18     so in memory of Elvira Elizondo.
