 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 476
 1-3           WHEREAS, On Wednesday, March 21, 2001, many proud residents
 1-4     of Hillsboro will gather in Austin to celebrate Hillsboro Day at
 1-5     the State Capitol, and this festive event is indeed an appropriate
 1-6     occasion to pay special tribute to this unique Texas town; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Hillsboro has grown with the changing times while
 1-8     still maintaining the charm and friendliness of a small town; the
 1-9     city has many beautifully restored Victorian residences and also
1-10     boasts a number of fine antique shops, which attract discriminating
1-11     connoisseurs from across the state; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Among the city's most valuable assets is
1-13     Hill College, and this outstanding institution is home to the
1-14     award-winning Texas Heritage Museum and research center; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Each year Hillsboro hosts a number of gala events,
1-16     including the county fair, Bond's Alley Summer Festival and Holiday
1-17     Bazaar, and the Go Texan/Cotton Pickin' Fair, and these events are
1-18     an ideal showcase for the city's hospitality and scenic beauty; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The county celebrates the restoration of
1-20     its historic courthouse, which was nearly destroyed by fire
1-21     January 1, 1993, as the hub of county government and the
1-22     centerpiece of the downtown business district; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, The residents of Hillsboro are justifiably proud of
 2-2     their fine city and of the many special qualities that make it an
 2-3     outstanding place in which to live, work, and raise a family; in
 2-4     light of its citizenry's many contributions to the State of Texas,
 2-5     it is most fitting that Hillsboro be given special legislative
 2-6     recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-8     77th Legislature, hereby declare March 21, 2001, as Hillsboro Day
 2-9     at the State Capitol and join Hillsboro residents as they celebrate
2-10     their city's greatness; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
2-12     prepared for the citizens of Hillsboro as an expression of
2-13     recognition and appreciation from the Texas Senate.
