 1-5                                Betty Barnett
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of Alvin in mourning the death of respected community
 1-8     leader Betty Barnett; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Betty lived in Brazoria County since 1964, and
1-10     she received her nursing degree from Alvin Community College
1-11     in 1988; and
1-12           WHEREAS, A well-known civic leader, Betty worked on
1-13     countless projects to improve the quality of life in her
1-14     community; she was most proud of being coordinator of the
1-15     Alvin Community Thanksgiving Dinner each year since 1991; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Betty never missed an opportunity to serve
1-17     others; she was active with the Chamber of Commerce; she was
1-18     named Alvin's Citizen of the Year for 1999; and
1-19           WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
1-20     Betty gave unselfishly of her time to others; and her wisdom,
1-21     warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
 2-1     knew her; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Friends and family of Betty affirm that her
 2-3     community service was what she lived for, and Betty's dedication
 2-4     to helping her fellowman has earned her a special place in the
 2-5     hearts of all citizens of Alvin; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family
 2-8     of Betty Barnett:  her husband, Randy; and her son and her two
 2-9     grandchildren; and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-11     the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
2-12     from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
2-13     it do so in memory of Betty Barnett.
