1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 499 1-3 WHEREAS, On May 5, 2001, Steve Whitworth of Mesquite is 1-4 retiring from the Mesquite City Council, and at this time it is 1-5 indeed appropriate to recognize this esteemed Texan for his years 1-6 of dedicated service; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A Mesquite native and successful Allstate 1-8 Neighborhood Office business owner, Mr. Whitworth began a 1-9 distinguished career of service to his community in May, 1993, 1-10 when he was elected to Place 2 on the Mesquite City Council; 1-11 reelected to the council in 1995, 1997, and 1999, he worked 1-12 tirelessly in behalf of Mesquite while also serving on various 1-13 local and regional committees representing the city; and 1-14 WHEREAS, His commitment to Mesquite reached beyond his 1-15 elected office, as he has been actively involved in numerous civic 1-16 issues and with the Airport Advisory Board, the Planning and Zoning 1-17 Commission, and the Texas Municipal League; he belongs to the Freedom 1-18 of Information Foundation and the Mesquite Citizens Police Academy 1-19 Alumni, in addition to working on the Falcon's Lair TIF Board and 1-20 the Towne Center TIF Board; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Mr. Whitworth also has donated his time to the 1-22 benefit of the area's youth as a member of the Mesquite Child 1-23 Guidance Clinic Advisory Board; moreover, he participated in the 2-1 Price Elementary PTA, the NMHS Site Based Decision Making Committee, 2-2 and the NMHS Booster Club; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Through his outstanding civic leadership, this 2-4 admirable gentleman has undoubtedly aided the City of Mesquite in 2-5 myriad ways, and his lasting good works ensure that he will remain 2-6 one of its most valued citizens for years to come; now, therefore, 2-7 be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-9 77th Legislature, hereby commend Steve Whitworth for his 2-10 exemplary tenure as a Mesquite city councilman and on the occasion 2-11 of his retirement extend to him sincere best wishes for continued 2-12 success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 2-14 prepared for Mr. Whitworth as an expression of high regard by the 2-15 Texas Senate. 2-16 Carona 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 President of the Senate 2-19 I hereby certify that the above 2-20 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-21 on March 19, 2001. 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 Secretary of the Senate 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Member, Texas Senate
