1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 515 1-3 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is proud to recognize the Best 1-4 Southwest Chamber Partnership for its many contributions toward 1-5 the future progress of the Southwest Dallas County area; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The members of this excellent organization will be 1-7 coming to the State Capitol on March 28, 2001, for their special 1-8 day; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Founded in 1986 from the communities of Cedar Hill, 1-10 DeSoto, Duncanville, and Lancaster, Texas, the partnership 1-11 promotes the combined assets of the more than 130,000 people 1-12 who live and work in their communities by advocating economic, 1-13 legislative, and educational initiatives for the betterment of 1-14 Southwest Dallas County; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The Best Southwest Partnership is to be 1-16 congratulated for its successful "When Eagles Dare" Gala that 1-17 benefitted the University of North Texas System Center at Dallas 1-18 and raised over $250,000 for that deserving institution of higher 1-19 learning; assisting Honorary Chairs Senator Royce West and 1-20 Dr. Alfred Hurley, Chancellor of the University of North Texas 1-21 System in the successful fund-raising event were Chairman Dan Eddy, 2-1 Vice Chair Rosa Anderson, Treasurer Rick Keeler, John Johnson, 2-2 Carol Mason, Carla Fahey, Kathy Eddy, Gail Douglas, Margaret Morris, 2-3 Tammy Kurkendall, Rocky Strickland, Dr. Virginia Wheeless, 2-4 Lena Ainley, Monte Anderson, Mayor Chuck Beatty, Peggy Borden, 2-5 Trustee Hollis Brashear, Terri Brown, Marjorie Craft, 2-6 Monte' Elliott, Bob Garza, Joe Johnson, Jim McDonald, 2-7 Beverly Mendoza, Pat Mobley, Becky Pape, Mayor Richard Rozier, 2-8 Joel Sontag, George Williams, Gary Young, Will Clark, Greta Davis, 2-9 Rickie Eddy, Angela Hawkins, Raul Hinojosa, Robin Hutchinson, 2-10 Alicia Martinez, Dr. Nancy McCray, and Lisa Rucker; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Encouraging other partnerships among civic, 2-12 business, and educational entities for the benefit of the entire 2-13 area, the partnership encourages joint mayors/managers breakfasts, 2-14 combined chamber of commerce luncheons, a regional transportation 2-15 council, and a regional library cooperative; and 2-16 WHEREAS, All the policies of the partnership are established 2-17 by a representative body appointed by the four partner cities' 2-18 chambers of commerce and are made up of six leaders from each 2-19 community; all actions must be unanimous; and 2-20 WHEREAS, A key to the success of the partnership includes 2-21 chambers of commerce with common goals which reinforce the image 2-22 of the area as a desirable place to live, work, and do business; 2-23 now, therefore, be it 2-24 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-1 77th Legislature, hereby welcome the Best Southwest Partnership 3-2 on its day at the Capitol on March 28, 2001; and, be it further 3-3 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this 3-4 outstanding group as an expression of the high regard and esteem 3-5 of the Texas Senate. 3-6 West 3-7 ______________________________________ 3-8 President of the Senate 3-9 I hereby certify that the above 3-10 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-11 on March 20, 2001. 3-12 ______________________________________ 3-13 Secretary of the Senate 3-14 ______________________________________ 3-15 Member, Texas Senate
