 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 1-4     recognize the Omicron Gamma Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,
 1-5     Incorporated, on the grand occasion of the chapter's Annual
 1-6     Scholarship Fashion Show and Luncheon, which is being held
 1-7     March 25, 2001; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Founded on the campus of Howard University on
 1-9     January 16, 1920, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, is a
1-10     nonprofit organization that provides services and programs to
1-11     promote human welfare; the sorority was established by its five
1-12     founders due to encouragement by members of Phi Beta Sigma
1-13     Fraternity; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated,
1-15     conduct community service projects, provide scholarships to
1-16     eligible women, contribute to organized charities, promote voter
1-17     registration, and provide tutorial and educational services to the
1-18     community; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The process for establishing the sorority's
1-20     Omicron Gamma Zeta Chapter began in 1990 when nine sorors met
1-21     to begin the application procedures; the charter was approved
1-22     on December 8, 1990; in 1994, the chapter, though still young,
 2-1     successfully cohosted the 65th Anniversary Regional Board Meeting
 2-2     and Youth Retreat of Southern Regional Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,
 2-3     Incorporated; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, The chapter regularly participates in activities
 2-5     that are designed to fulfill the sorority's goals; its members
 2-6     have donated computer equipment to the Stork's Nest, awarded
 2-7     scholarships to graduating seniors, annually provided Thanksgiving
 2-8     and Christmas baskets and clothing and toys for the needy, and
 2-9     participated in the March of Dimes Walk-America; and
2-10           WHEREAS, The chapter's youth groups, the Pearlettes, Amicetts,
2-11     Archonetts, and Gents have been most diligent in their service;
2-12     in 1998, the Archonetts were honored for adopting the Renaissance
2-13     Children's Home and won second-place honors at the National Step
2-14     Show; and
2-15           WHEREAS, In support of their regional and national sorors
2-16     and fraternity brothers, the members of the Omicron Gamma Zeta
2-17     Chapter have worked hard to meet the challenges of the sorority's
2-18     mission, and its members deserve recognition for their many
2-19     accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
2-20           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-21     77th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the
2-22     Omicron Gamma Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated,
2-23     on their invaluable contributions to their community and extend
2-24     best wishes to them and their honorees on the occasion of their
 3-1     Annual Scholarship Fashion Show and Luncheon; and, be it further
 3-2           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 3-3     the Omicron Gamma Zeta Chapter as an expression of esteem from the
 3-4     Texas Senate.
