1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 535 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased 1-4 to recognize Sister Rosemary Welsh, who is being honored as 1-5 Humanitarian of the Year by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of 1-6 Laredo and South Texas; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A member of the Religious Sisters of Mercy, 1-8 Sister Rosemary earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing 1-9 from Saint Louis University; she currently works as community 1-10 health outreach nurse educator and coordinator for the Primary 1-11 Health Care Programs of Mercy Health Center in Laredo; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Sister Rosemary first came to Laredo in 1976, 1-13 and after living there six years, she left to serve communities 1-14 in Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Ten years after leaving, Sister Rosemary returned 1-16 to Laredo to make it her home, and she has since proven herself 1-17 a valuable force in the community, working to help women and 1-18 children escape abuse and live full and dignified lives; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Sister Rosemary currently serves as Director 1-20 of Casa de Misericordia, a domestic violence shelter; the 2-1 institution is a founding partner of the Webb/Laredo County 2-2 Domestic Violence Coalition; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Sister Rosemary's abiding faith and magnanimous 2-4 spirit are an inspiration to the people of Laredo, and the 2-5 State of Texas is truly fortunate to count her among its 2-6 citizens; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 77th Legislature, hereby congratulate Sister Rosemary Welsh 2-9 on being honored as Humanitarian of the Year by the Make-A-Wish 2-10 Foundation of Laredo and South Texas; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-12 her as an expression of great esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-13 Zaffirini 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the above 2-17 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-18 on March 21, 2001. 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
