1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 552 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-4 recognize J. David Beasley, who retired from the Texas Department 1-5 of Public Safety after 28 years of dedicated service; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Born February 17, 1951, David grew up in 1-7 Foreman, Arkansas, the youngest of six children; he graduated 1-8 from Foreman High School in 1969 and earned his degree from 1-9 Sam Houston State University Law Enforcement Management Institute 1-10 in 1999; and 1-11 WHEREAS, David began his career as a Department of Public 1-12 Safety Officer on October 6, 1971; by 1977, David was selected to 1-13 become one of the first Department of Public Safety Criminal Law 1-14 Enforcement troopers; stationed in McAllen, he successfully 1-15 completed an assignment as a Narcotic Interdiction Trooper; and 1-16 WHEREAS, For the remainder of his career, David continued to 1-17 work as a narcotic officer; his expertise has led him to work in 1-18 every region of Texas, and wherever his assignment, David has been 1-19 respected by his colleagues as a consummate professional who keeps 1-20 the best interests of Texans at heart; and 1-21 WHEREAS, In 1982, David successfully helped lead efforts to 2-1 end a major methamphetamine manufacturing organization in Texas, 2-2 and for his efforts, he was a co-recipient of the Texas Narcotic 2-3 Officers Association/Ross Perot-Texans' War on Drugs Award as a 2-4 Narcotics Officer of the Year; and 2-5 WHEREAS, David has emerged as a leader in his profession, 2-6 serving the Texas Narcotic Officers Association in many capacities, 2-7 including one term as Regional Director and two terms as president; 2-8 he is a licensed instructor through the Texas Commission on Law 2-9 Enforcement Standards and Education and has taught numerous courses 2-10 for the Department of Public Safety; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Communities in Texas, the United States, and abroad 2-12 have benefitted from David's experience as a narcotics officer; 2-13 he has lectured to police and public organizations in Texas, 2-14 Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany, and England about drug trends 2-15 in the United States; and 2-16 WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished person, David Beasley 2-17 has served all Texans by helping to keep their communities safe 2-18 and free of harmful narcotics; after 28 years of crime fighting, 2-19 this fine gentleman deserves a happy and restful retirement; now, 2-20 therefore, be it 2-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-22 77th Legislature, hereby commend Sergeant Investigator 2-23 J.
