 1-5                             Mary Carolyn Randle
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of Big Spring
 1-7     in mourning the loss of newspaper columnist Mary Carolyn Randle,
 1-8     who died on February 28, 2001, at the age of 71; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, A native of Oklahoma, Mrs. Randle was born on
1-10     March 6, 1929, in Wellston; she graduated from the High School
1-11     Adjunct of Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma; and
1-12           WHEREAS, This talented lady attended Central State College
1-13     and Howard College, and she had worked for American Fina Pipeline
1-14     for 35 years until her retirement; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Mary married Adrian Randle on April 16, 1948, and
1-16     the couple had celebrated their golden anniversary in April, 1998;
1-17     Mr. and Mrs. Randle both loved to travel, and often her column
1-18     would reflect this; and
1-19           WHEREAS, An inspired journalist, Mrs. Randle had written a
1-20     column for the Big Spring Herald since 1992; in recent years,
 2-1     her column had appeared in the "life!" section; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Mary Randle wrote about her interests and hobbies;
 2-3     she was a voracious reader and had an incomparable zest for life
 2-4     along with an abiding thirst for knowledge; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Mrs. Randle loved to cook, and she was interested
 2-6     in gourmet cuisine; Mary was a dedicated gardener and
 2-7     horticulturalist; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, A faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church,
 2-9     she had been active in all facets of church life; and
2-10           WHEREAS, A devoted wife, Mary is remembered for the
2-11     affection, confidence, and loyalty she inspired in those with
2-12     whom she was associated; and
2-13           WHEREAS, A respected and beloved member of her community,
2-14     Mary Randle will be remembered for her devotion to her family,
2-15     friends, profession, and community; she leaves a legacy of
2-16     compassion and commitment which will be cherished by those who
2-17     knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it
2-18           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-19     77th Legislature, hereby  extend sincere condolences to her
2-20     husband, Adrian Randle, and her many cousins; and, be it further
2-21           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-22     the loved ones of Mary Carolyn Randle as an expression of deepest
2-23     sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns
 3-1     this day, it do so in memory of Mary Carolyn Randle.
