1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 566 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly recognizes 1-4 the members of the Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement 1-5 Systems on the occasion of their 12th annual TEXPERS Conference, 1-6 which is being held April 1 through 4, 2001; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement 1-8 Systems (TEXPERS) is an effective statewide organization created 1-9 with the purpose of protecting the rights of public employees of 1-10 Texas as well as the quality and strength of public pension 1-11 systems; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Since it was chartered, the Texas Association 1-13 of Public Employee Retirement Systems has provided forums for 1-14 discussing state and national legislative issues that affect 1-15 Texas pension systems; it has also supplied important information 1-16 on retirement system administration, benefit designs, and federal 1-17 programs; and 1-18 WHEREAS, A voluntary, high quality, nonprofit educational 1-19 association, it has assumed the tasks of improving the management 1-20 and administration of Texas public retirement systems and helping 1-21 to ensure their actuarial integrity; and 2-1 WHEREAS, The organization, which has grown extensively in 2-2 the last decade, has established the strongest collective body in 2-3 the State of Texas and is dedicated to addressing the concerns of 2-4 public employee retirement systems throughout the state; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Many of the nation's outstanding firms which provide 2-6 professional services to public pension funds are members of the 2-7 Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems; these 2-8 associate memberships include actuaries, consultants, custodians, 2-9 law firms, money managers, and real estate advisors; and 2-10 WHEREAS, The annual conferences provide excellent 2-11 opportunities for the association to reiterate its intention 2-12 to develop communication between diverse parties interested in 2-13 public retirement plans and to protect the rights of public pension 2-14 systems and the employees they cover; and 2-15 WHEREAS, The 12th annual conference agenda includes key 2-16 speakers and panel discussions addressing pension system issues; 2-17 the conference also includes a "Day at the Capitol" which provides 2-18 the opportunity for discussions between the association's members 2-19 and legislators; now, therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-21 77th Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Association of Public 2-22 Employee Retirement Systems for its informative and productive 2-23 conferences and extend best wishes to its members on the occasion 2-24 of the 12th annual TEXPERS Conference; and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-2 the Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems as 3-3 an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 3-4 Whitmire 3-5 ______________________________________ 3-6 President of the Senate 3-7 I hereby certify that the above 3-8 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-9 on March 26, 2001. 3-10 ______________________________________ 3-11 Secretary of the Senate 3-12 ______________________________________ 3-13 Member, Texas Senate
