 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 578
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     recognize Jose R. Parra and Rosario Parra of El Paso for the
 1-5     many contributions they have made through the years to their
 1-6     community; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Born in El Paso County on April 15, 1947, Jose is
 1-8     the son of Jose R. and Concepcion Parra of San Elizario; Rosario
 1-9     was born in Lerdo, Durango, Mexico, on December 10, 1949, to
1-10     Jose Roberto and Josefina Rosales; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Married on February 22, 1966, in San Elizario, Jose
1-12     and Rosario are the proud parents of two sons, David Parra and
1-13     Damian Parra; Jose and Rosario are also the loving grandparents
1-14     of granddaughters Amber and Ariel Parra; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Honorably discharged from the United States Army
1-16     in 1968 after two loyal years of service, Jose entered
1-17     The University of Texas at El Paso; he graduated from this
1-18     esteemed institution in August, 1972, with a bachelor of business
1-19     administration degree; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Jose went to work for El Paso Natural Gas Company,
1-21     and he has been employed with that company in the Accounting
 2-1     Department for 27 years; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Rosario earned her General Educational Development
 2-3     degree in December, 1978, and has continued her studies for
 2-4     self-enrichment; she was employed as a seamstress for Farah
 2-5     Manufacturing Company for 12 years; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, Very active in the Amalgamated Clothing Workers
 2-7     Union, Rosario became president and shop steward of the union; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Longtime civic activists, both Mr. and Mrs. Parra
 2-9     have worked faithfully for various causes; Jose has been active
2-10     in the Alzheimer's Association, the Juvenile Conference Committee,
2-11     and the Optimist Club; during the time that the boys were growing
2-12     up, Rosario fulfilled several roles, she raised her sons and helped
2-13     Jose while he finished college; at the present time, she is a
2-14     board member on the Child Welfare Board and the El Paso Mission
2-15     Trail Association, and she is also a member of the Mission Valley
2-16     Steering Committee; and
2-17           WHEREAS, Active in local politics since 1996 when Jose's
2-18     brother, Jose Antonio Parra, ran for state representative from
2-19     the 75th district, both Mr. and Mrs. Parra have participated in
2-20     many campaigns; and
2-21           WHEREAS, Treasurer of the El Paso Democratic Party for three
2-22     years, Jose has been precinct chair for Precinct 96 for four
2-23     years and was elected in 1999 to serve as Democratic Interim County
 3-1     Chair; Rosario works for State Representative Najera as an Outreach
 3-2     Coordinator; and
 3-3           WHEREAS, Both Mr. and Mrs. Parra were elected state delegates
 3-4     to the State Democratic Party convention in 1998 and 2000; and
 3-5           WHEREAS, Truly pillars of their community,
 3-6     Jose and Rosario Parra have been noteworthy citizens who have
 3-7     provided wise leadership and given most generously of their time
 3-8     and energy; now, therefore, be it
 3-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
3-10     77th Legislature, hereby congratulate Jose R. Parra and
3-11     Rosario Parra for their exceptional achievements while
3-12     helping their community; and, be it further
3-13           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3-14     them as an expression of highest regard and esteem from the
3-15     Texas Senate.
