1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 589 1-3 WHEREAS, Hunger remains one of the crucial issues of our 1-4 time, and every day an estimated 35,000 people die around the 1-5 world from malnutrition or the effects of malnutrition; Breedlove 1-6 Dehydrated Foods, Rotary International, and HungerPlus, an 1-7 organization of Rotarians, have joined together in an effort 1-8 to combat this devastating problem; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Located in Lubbock, Texas, Breedlove Dehydrated 1-10 Foods is the first nonprofit food dehydration plant in the world 1-11 that is dedicated to eradicating hunger around the world; this 1-12 visionary enterprise utilizes surplus vegetables grown in Texas 1-13 to provide inexpensive, nutritious meals from a blend of dehydrated 1-14 potatoes, carrots, textured vegetable protein, rice, and onions; 1-15 easy to transport, store, and prepare, these meals are provided to 1-16 food banks, mission groups, and international aid organizations; 1-17 and 1-18 WHEREAS, The Rotary International and the HungerPlus program 1-19 provides these dehydrated meals to individuals in the United States, 1-20 Mexico, Central America, South America, Asia, Africa, and the 1-21 countries of the former Soviet Union; in addition, volunteers are 1-22 helping the people of these areas to develop a self-sufficient food 2-1 supply through improved farming techniques and education; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Working to alleviate hunger is truly an admirable 2-3 endeavor, and the men and women who have chosen to undertake this 2-4 venture are most deserving of praise and support; now, therefore, 2-5 be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-7 77th Legislature, hereby commend the staff of the Breedlove 2-8 Dehydration Plant, Mr. Robert Taylor, the general manager of 2-9 Breedlove Dehydrated Foods, Mr. David Weaver, Jr., the executive 2-10 director of the South Plains Food Bank, J. B.
