1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 591 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas wishes to pay 1-4 tribute to the late Dale Earnhardt, one of the most outstanding 1-5 race car drivers on the NASCAR circuit, by declaring April 1, 2001, 1-6 as Dale Earnhardt Day in Texas; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Born April 29, 1951, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, 1-8 Dale was beginning his 23rd full-time season in 2001; he was 1-9 happily married to his lovely wife, Teresa, and was the loving 1-10 father of four children; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Named NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the Year in 1-12 1979, Dale was known as "the Intimidator"; he won his first NASCAR 1-13 Winston Cup title in 1980; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Credited with revolutionizing the sport of 1-15 stock car racing, Dale Earnhardt tragically lost his life on 1-16 February 18, 2001, in a wreck which took place during the last 1-17 lap of the Daytona 500 race; and 1-18 WHEREAS, This remarkable athlete won seven NASCAR Winston Cup 1-19 championships; his most memorable victory was the 1998 Daytona 500; 1-20 and 2-1 WHEREAS, Famous for his extraordinary skill in driving, 2-2 Dale Earnhardt drove for the Richard Childress Racing team; and 2-3 WHEREAS, With his tragic and untimely passing, the country 2-4 has lost a legend; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-6 77th Legislature, hereby declare April 1, 2001, Dale Earnhardt 2-7 Day in Texas; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-9 family of Dale Earnhardt as an expression of high regard from the 2-10 Texas Senate. 2-11 Wentworth 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 President of the Senate 2-14 I hereby certify that the above 2-15 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-16 on March 28, 2001. 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 Secretary of the Senate 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Member, Texas Senate
