 1-3           WHEREAS, This year is indeed a special time in the
 1-4     North Texas city of Glen Rose, as it marks the 75th anniversary
 1-5     of the city's founding, and it is most fitting to recognize the
 1-6     rich history and the many significant contributions of this
 1-7     picturesque community at this time; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Founded in 1926, Glen Rose was originally called
 1-9     Rose Glen because the shores of its winding Paluxy River were
1-10     flanked by wild roses and lush ferns; blessed with abundant
1-11     natural beauty, the area features spring-fed pools that have
1-12     long been reported to contain healing minerals, spurring the
1-13     town's main source of income today, tourism; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The discovery of several dinosaur footprints in
1-15     the Paluxy riverbed led to the establishment of the city's
1-16     Dinosaur Valley State Park, a place that allows visitors the
1-17     opportunity to experience this rare piece of history, while
1-18     preserving it in a controlled environment; recognized by the
1-19     Texas House of Representatives as the Dinosaur Capital of Texas
1-20     in 1997, Glen Rose welcomes more than a million visitors each year
1-21     to its dinosaur park and other outdoor and cultural attractions;
1-22     and
 2-1           WHEREAS, A facility that has contributed greatly to the
 2-2     economy of the Glen Rose area is the Comanche Peak Steam Electric
 2-3     Station, a nuclear power plant located just north of the city
 2-4     limits; this facility invites guests on guided tours of the power
 2-5     plant site and offers a truly memorable and educational experience;
 2-6     and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Residents of this lovely city are also proud to
 2-8     host the acclaimed Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, 2,700 acres of
 2-9     unspoiled countryside that is home to some of the world's most
2-10     endangered animals, including the white rhino, cheetah, and
2-11     Grevy's zebra; and
2-12           WHEREAS, A city of approximately 2,500 residents,
2-13     Glen Rose has a small-town charm coupled with innumerable
2-14     opportunities for adventure, making it a wonderful place to
2-15     visit as well as live, work, and raise a family; its unique
2-16     offerings and warmhearted citizens are truly an asset to the
2-17     state, and it is a privilege to honor this city on this most
2-18     memorable occasion; now, therefore, be it
2-19           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-20     77th Legislature, hereby congratulate the citizens of Glen Rose
2-21     as they celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of their
2-22     city and extend to them sincere best wishes for a wonderful year;
2-23     and, be it further
2-24           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
 3-1     prepared for the City of Glen Rose as an expression of high
 3-2     regard from the Texas Senate.
