 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 609
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 1-4     recognize Dee Etta Jones, who is being honored for her lifetime
 1-5     of exemplary volunteer work; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, April 14, 2001, will be a day long cherished and
 1-7     remembered by Mrs. Jones for on that day she is being lauded
 1-8     for her dedication to helping others and for her community
 1-9     involvement and is being honored on the grand occasion of her
1-10     75th birthday; and
1-11           WHEREAS, The eldest of five siblings, Dee Etta Washington
1-12     was born April 16, 1926, in Fairfield, Texas; she married her
1-13     beloved, William Jones, Jr., and the devoted couple shared 50
1-14     years of happiness; they were blessed with a wonderful family:
1-15     their children, Deborah, Humphrey, Roderick, Donald, Anthony,
1-16     and Sheryl; and their 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren;
1-17     and
1-18           WHEREAS, Noted as a woman of great compassion, this
1-19     distinguished lady gives generously of her time to helping
1-20     others; Mrs. Jones aids fellow senior citizens with grocery
1-21     shopping, and she organizes social outings for them; and
1-22           WHEREAS, A woman of indomitable spirit, Mrs. Jones is
1-23     president of the Day Mission and Golden Ministry of Mount Tabor
 2-1     Missionary Baptist Church and the Association of Senior Citizens of
 2-2     Metropolitan Dallas and past president of the American Association
 2-3     of Retired Persons, Local Chapter 2192 and the Council of Negro
 2-4     Women; she is a member of the Dallas County Community Action
 2-5     Committee, the Terri Hodge Volunteer Committee, and the
 2-6     John Wiley Price Volunteer Committee; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, A retiree of the City of Dallas since 1991,
 2-8     Mrs. Jones receives much enjoyment from cooking, sewing,
 2-9     gardening, traveling, volunteering, and working at the
2-10     Samuell-Grand Tennis Center, where she has been employed
2-11     since 1995; and
2-12           WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones is an exemplary individual whose
2-13     worthy accomplishments reflect her commitment, generosity of
2-14     spirit, and dedication to enriching the lives of all who know
2-15     and love her; she is truly inspirational and worthy of
2-16     legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-17           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-18     77th Legislature, hereby commend Dee Etta Jones for her
2-19     exceptional work on behalf of others and extend best wishes
2-20     for a most joyous 75th birthday; and, be it further
2-21           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-22     Mrs. Jones as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
