1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 612 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure 1-4 in recognizing Linda Kaye Held, who is retiring after 30 years 1-5 of loyal service as a schoolteacher in law-related education; and 1-6 WHEREAS, An advanced placement government and criminal law 1-7 teacher at Southlake Carroll High School, Linda Held is retiring 1-8 May 27, 2001; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The recipient of a number of awards, Linda Held 1-10 has distinguished herself in her profession; in 1988, she was 1-11 one of five people presented with the Leon Jaworski Award for 1-12 Excellence in Law-Related Education in Texas; in 1995, she was 1-13 the only teacher to receive the Nancy Garms Memorial Award from 1-14 the board of directors of the State Bar of Texas; and in the 1-15 year 2000, she was unanimously selected as High School Teacher 1-16 of the Year by the American Lawyers' Auxiliary; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Linda was nominated by students four times for 1-18 "Who's Who Among American High School Teachers" and has served 1-19 as a consultant for the State Bar of Texas Law-Related Education 1-20 Department and for Hatton Sumners Institute; she is the author of 1-21 "The Grand Jury," a law-related education curriculum guide; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Throughout the years of her career, Linda has 2-1 generously dedicated her time and energy to her students and 2-2 has been an innovative, resourceful, and enthusiastic educator; 2-3 and 2-4 WHEREAS, A positive influence in the lives of her students, 2-5 Linda has instilled in them a sense of pride and a lifelong love 2-6 of learning; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Linda Held has armed her pupils with the skills 2-8 necessary to compete in the society of tomorrow, and the 2-9 State of Texas has greatly benefitted from the diligence and 2-10 hard work of this talented teacher; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 77th Legislature, hereby commend Linda Kaye Held for her 2-13 superior contributions to the educational system of Texas 2-14 and extend best wishes to her for a rewarding retirement; 2-15 and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-17 for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-18 Nelson 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 President of the Senate 2-21 I hereby certify that the above 2-22 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-23 on April 2, 2001. 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Secretary of the Senate 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Member, Texas Senate
