 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 621
 1-3           WHEREAS, Members of the Houston chapter of the American
 1-4     Leadership Forum are visiting the Capitol on April 3, 2001, and
 1-5     it is a pleasure to extend a welcome to these public-spirited
 1-6     individuals; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Founded in 1980 by lawyer Joseph Jaworski and 17
 1-8     other prominent Americans, the forum seeks to identify leaders in
 1-9     communities across the country, develop their leadership skills,
1-10     and encourage them to join together in addressing public issues;
1-11     and
1-12           WHEREAS, Every year approximately 20 established leaders
1-13     in each chapter are selected to participate in an intensive,
1-14     year-long program in which they explore the nature of leadership
1-15     and nurture a variety of leadership skills; the makeup of each
1-16     class is intended to reflect the demographic profile of the
1-17     community, as well as to include the perspectives of business,
1-18     religious, and academic leaders and elected officials; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The work of the American Leadership Forum is
1-20     premised on the belief that the responsibility for improving
1-21     organizations, communities, and society as a whole lies with
1-22     individuals who are willing to lend their own personal efforts
1-23     to that cause, and that through the united efforts of a diverse
 2-1     leadership, any problem can be overcome; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Members of this year's American Leadership
 2-3     Forum class in Houston include Armando Alaniz, Carol Alvarado,
 2-4     Charles Bacaisse, Glenda Barrett, Jew Don Boney, Jr.,
 2-5     Dr. Peter Chang, Algenita Davis, George DeMontrond,
 2-6     James Dixon III, Robert Eury, Beth Everts, Carolyn Grovey-Brown,
 2-7     Bonnie Hellums, Dee Koch, Ranvir Mohindra, Dr. Susan Sclafani,
 2-8     State Representative Joseph Nixon, Sara Seiber, Brian Smith,
 2-9     Ann Stern, Caroline Vetterling, and Dr. Alvia Wardlaw; and
2-10           WHEREAS, The American Leadership Forum is doing invaluable
2-11     work in training local leaders and in encouraging a spirit of
2-12     collaborative civic engagement, and its efforts are indeed
2-13     deserving of recognition and support; now, therefore, be it
2-14           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-15     77th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the American
2-16     Leadership Forum for their significant commitment to public
2-17     service and extend to them sincere appreciation on behalf of
2-18     all the citizens of Texas.
