1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 632 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Dr. J. E. Stibbards 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 1-7 citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of one of its 1-8 most esteemed and well-loved citizens, Dr. J. E. "Ted" Stibbards, 1-9 who died September 22, 2000, at the age of 63; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The prominent hospital administrator made notable 1-11 contributions to his profession throughout his long and productive 1-12 career, and he will be missed by his family and many friends; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Dr. Stibbards 1-14 received his doctorate in hospital administration from McMaster 1-15 University in Canada and embarked on a lifelong commitment to 1-16 provide our children with the best possible level of care; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Having administratively served children's 1-18 hospitals in Cincinnati, Birmingham, Buffalo, Los Angeles, and 1-19 Toronto, Canada, Dr. Stibbards accepted the position of president 1-20 and chief executive officer at Corpus Christi's Driscoll Children's 1-21 Hospital in 1993 and held the position until 1998; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Dr. Stibbards brought exceptional expertise and 2-2 leadership to the hospital at a critical time for pediatric 2-3 services, and he pursued an aggressive program with innovative 2-4 service approaches and cost-effective measures; Dr. Stibbards' 2-5 tenacity led to the opening of a neonatal nursery and a pediatric 2-6 day surgery unit and the employment of a full-time chaplain; and 2-7 WHEREAS, The esteemed gentleman served as a faithful and 2-8 energetic member of numerous organizations including the 2-9 National Association of Children's Hospital, the Children's 2-10 Hospital Association of Texas, the Board of Directors of Driscoll 2-11 Children's Hospital, the Texas Association of Public and Nonprofit 2-12 Hospitals, the Texas State Aquarium, and the Rotary Club of 2-13 Corpus Christi; and 2-14 WHEREAS, The mentor, role model, and child advocate will be 2-15 remembered fondly for his strength of character and his sense 2-16 of purpose; the death of such a fine man is felt not only by his 2-17 family and friends, but also by all who benefitted from his 2-18 generosity and community spirit; now, therefore, be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-20 77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 2-21 bereaved family of Dr. J. E. "Ted" Stibbards: his wife, 2-22 Gwen Stibbards; his son and daughter-in-law, David and 2-23 Julie Stibbards; his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and 2-24 Roger Ocampo; his brother, Lawrence Stibbards; his sister, 3-1 Lyn Lewis; and his three grandchildren; and, be it further 3-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-3 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 3-4 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it 3-5 do so in memory of Dr. J. E.
