1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 634 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Elbert Easter 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-7 of Houston in mourning the loss of Elbert Easter, who died at the 1-8 age of 86; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Born on December 5, 1914, he was the son of the late 1-10 Mack Easter and Verlon Stewart Easter; Elbert grew up in a family 1-11 of six children; and 1-12 WHEREAS, In January, 1947, this distinguished gentleman 1-13 married Eva Lee Murphy Easter, and they were blessed with six 1-14 children; Eva Lee preceded her husband in death; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A true patriot, Elbert Easter served his country 1-16 honorably in the United States Army; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Easter enjoyed his life's work as a barber, 1-18 and he contributed to his community through his profession; and 1-19 WHEREAS, A talented singer who greatly enjoyed performing, 1-20 Elbert was a bass singer with the Hill Zion Singers, a member 1-21 of the Mount Moriah Male Chorus, and a bass singer with the 1-22 Hurst Singers of Mount Moriah; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Mr. Easter was a devoted husband, father, 2-2 grandfather, and great-grandfather; he was especially proud of 2-3 the accomplishments of each member of his family; and 2-4 WHEREAS, The wise counsel and sound judgment of Elbert Easter 2-5 will be remembered with gratitude by all who valued his friendship; 2-6 and 2-7 WHEREAS, Mr. Easter leaves a legacy of compassion and 2-8 commitment which will be cherished by all those sharing his life; 2-9 he will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-11 77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members 2-12 of the family of Elbert Easter: his daughters, Erika Christophe, 2-13 Lillie Wheat, and Helen Alexander; his sons, Harold Easter, 2-14 Elbert Easter, Jr., and Joe Willie Easter; and his 10 grandchildren 2-15 and his 21 great-grandchildren; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his 2-17 family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, 2-18 and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-19 Elbert Easter. 2-20 Ellis 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the above 2-24 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-25 on April 2, 2001, by a rising vote. 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Secretary of the Senate 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Member, Texas Senate
