 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 637
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure
 1-4     in recognizing Dr. Saleh M. Shenaq of Houston for his magnificent
 1-5     contributions to the field of medicine; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Born on June 7, 1948, Dr. Shenaq is a graduate
 1-7     of Cairo University, Kasr el Aini School of Medicine, where he
 1-8     received his medical degree in 1972; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Dr. Shenaq followed a distinguished academic
1-10     career path with a prestigious surgery residency in plastic and
1-11     reconstructive surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of
1-12     Medicine and was selected for a Hand and Microsurgery Fellowship
1-13     at the University of Louisville, Kentucky; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Saleh M. Shenaq is married to another talented
1-15     physician, Dr. Salwa Shenaq, who is an Associate Professor at
1-16     the Baylor College of Medicine and Chief of Anesthesiology at
1-17     the Veterans Affairs Medical Center; they are the proud parents
1-18     of three children, Deana, Amir, and Farris; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Since 1996, Dr. Shenaq has held the position
1-20     of Professor and Chief of Surgery of the Michael E. DeBakey
1-21     Department of Surgery Division of Plastic Surgery at Baylor
 2-1     College of Medicine; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, A respected physician, Dr. Shenaq holds academic
 2-3     appointments at several Baylor College of Medicine affiliated
 2-4     hospitals including Ben Taub General Hospital, the Methodist
 2-5     Hospital, Saint Luke's Episcopal Hospital, the Institute for
 2-6     Rehabilitation and Research, and Texas Childrens' Hospital; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, The winner of many honors and awards, Dr. Shenaq
 2-8     was selected as one of the Best Doctors in America for 1994-1995
 2-9     and 1996-1997; he won the Physicians for Peace Recognition Award in
2-10     1998 and in 2000 was selected as one of the "Top Doctors in Houston"
2-11     by Inside Houston magazine; and
2-12           WHEREAS, Dr. Shenaq has served on editorial boards of
2-13     the Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, the Video Journal
2-14     of Plastic Surgery, and the Internet Journal of Plastic Surgery;
2-15     and
2-16           WHEREAS, Acknowledged as a leader in his field, Dr. Shenaq
2-17     has held many short-term visiting professorships, sharing his
2-18     considerable talent through teaching; he has also served as vice
2-19     president and president of the American Society for Reconstructive
2-20     Microsurgery and as president of the Houston Society of Plastic
2-21     Surgeons; and
2-22           WHEREAS, A dedicated community supporter, Dr. Shenaq has
2-23     participated as a civic leader through memberships in the Rotary
 3-1     Club of Houston, the Limbs of Love Foundation, and the Texas Heart
 3-2     Transplant Foundation; and
 3-3           WHEREAS, The career of service of Dr. Saleh M. Shenaq has
 3-4     enhanced the medical care available in the Houston metropolitan
 3-5     area, and his leadership in the field of surgery is truly worthy
 3-6     of recognition; now, therefore, be it
 3-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 3-8     77th Legislature, hereby congratulate Dr. Saleh M. Shenaq for his
 3-9     manifold achievements and contributions to his field; and, be it
3-10     further
3-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3-12     him as an expression of highest regard and esteem from the
3-13     Texas Senate.
