 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 644
 1-3           WHEREAS, On this day, students involved in the Empowering
 1-4     Teen Leaders and Community Teen Leaders programs in Harris County
 1-5     high schools have come to the State Capitol to meet with state
 1-6     leaders and experience the legislative process firsthand; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Established by the Texas Agricultural Extension
 1-8     Service, the teen leader programs help to instill in youth the
 1-9     knowledge and skills essential for success; through their
1-10     involvement, the high school juniors present today have
1-11     demonstrated great initiative and maturity, as well as a
1-12     commitment to the betterment of their community through
1-13     volunteerism; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Becoming role models for their peers, these
1-15     student leaders join a select group of students who have received
1-16     this training before them, 36 of whom have been presented with the
1-17     Presidential Youth Service Gold Award from the president of the
1-18     United States for their outstanding community service; and
1-19           WHEREAS, All told, Empowering Teen Leaders and Community
1-20     Teen Leaders have touched the lives of more than 93,000 people
1-21     and contributed over 41,000 hours of civic service, and these
1-22     Harris County students are adding greatly to the programs'
1-23     impressive record of achievement; now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-2     77th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Empowering
 2-3     Teen Leaders and Community Teen Leaders programs for their
 2-4     exceptional volunteer efforts and extend to them best wishes
 2-5     for an educational and memorable visit to the seat of Texas
 2-6     government.
